During the 1996/1997 Season Daniel grew very fast and developed a shin problem that prevented him from competing early in season. He found form late in the year and after some tough 300m sessions came through to win the Australian u16 400m Title in 49.50.

In the 1997/98 Season Daniel picked up the Epstein-Barr virus which destroyed his level of fitness. His preparation for the 98/99 Season will involve more of a focus on endurance and the main event will be the 400m. Daniel's plan is to be in the low 48s range this season.
